English Curriculum

Our English curriculum incorporates reading, writing, phonics and spelling, punctuation, grammar and punctuation lessons with a focus on the spoken language and development of speaking and listening skills throughout. Within our English curriculum we aim for our work to have a clear purpose and focus, with links to others studies and the pupils everyday lives where appropriate.

English Curriculum Intent

At Pennine Way we believe that a quality English curriculum should develop children’s love of reading, writing and discussion. We recognise the importance of nurturing a culture where children take pride in their writing, can write clearly and accurately whilst adapting their language and style for a range of real life contexts. We want to inspire children to be confident in the art of speaking and listening, who can use discussion to communicate and further their learning. We believe that children need to develop essential reading and writing skills which follow a clear pathway of progression as they advance through the primary curriculum. A secure basis in speaking, listening, reading and writing is crucial to a high quality education and will give our children the tools they need to participate fully as a member of society.
